Katherine now...

Katherine before...

Katherine Glover, WFS Member

WFS: What motivated you to begin the weight loss process?

Katherine: I'd been overweight my entire life, and had tried just about every diet on the market (so to speak), but nothing was really successful, because I wasn't really ready to succeed. I've always been a motivated person, but I am particularly motivated by people who interest me, and Brenda was one of those interesting people. I was taking an ITV class with her through the University, and I commented to another student in the class as to how much energy and enthusiasm she had at 7:30 at night. The student told me that she also was an aerobics instructor at Women's Fitness Studio & Spa. One thing led to another, and I braved the front door of WFS. The rest is history...so in the long run, Brenda was my direct motivation.

WFS: What kept you motivated?

Katherine: The environment, the staff, and certainly the other members of the facility. But also, the weight loss results.

WFS: What resources available at WFS helped you achieve your goals?

Katherine: Camaraderie, an extensive array of classes, a vast Nautilus system designed just for women, and the diverse hours of operation.

WFS: Can you describe your workout regimen and how it changed as you became more physically fit?

Katherine: I worked out faithfully a minimum of three days per week - usually M, W, F and occasional weekends. Initially, before I injured my foot, I did the 7:30 a.m. aerobics class, and a 45 minute weight training regime. Once I was injured and my doctor suggested much lower impact cardio, I began 45 minutes on the cross trainer (elliptical), the rower and/or the recumbent bike, along with 45 minutes of weight training - usually three days per week. When I started, I could barely do a full 15 minutes on any of the cardio equipment on level one, and didn't even use one riser in aerobics. By the end, I was using two full risers, and was hitting the difficult and challenging levels of the equipment.

WFS: Did you feel support from the staff at WFS with your individual goals, and if so, how?

Katherine: They were all supportive by always being courteous in answering questions - just passing by - no appointment needed, and were always there to share supportive comments as I was going through my metamorphosis.

WFS: Describe how you feel now during this time of your life.

Katherine: I feel ready to face anything. My weight is no longer a deterrent when conquering the world. Whereas at 225 pounds, even though I was energetic and enthusiastic, I was not as confident as I am now at 140 pounds. I'm a whole new person, and will never go back! I've kept the weight off now for over a year, and each day is always challenging and will always be challenging, but it is a way of life for me now.
